Boomerangers?
The term Boomeranger alludes to an old concept, and a new reality for many. Today, the term affectionately refers to those of us (Gen-X’ers and Gen-Y’ers of the Boomerang Generation) who have either returned to an earlier, more modest lifestyle or have simply moved back home with parents and other loved ones, in response to the extended economic recession. Considering the depth and length of this recession, moving back home, even as a thirty-something (often with a family of your own), is not as stigmatized as it once was. In some cases, it has become a choice of necessity.
Faced with the realities of a jobless recovery in the US, the modern day Boomeranger uses the current market condition as an opportunity to more carefully consider his/her career options, whether it is a path to entrepreneurship or not. And being temporarily relieved of several costly expenses, such as monthly utilities, rent or a mortgage, makes this possible. Collectively, as Boomerangers, our achievement will derive from the sharing of our common concerns and successes. If you too are a Boomeranger, or aspire to be, come join us on Facebook and Twitter.
